We Are Moving!

Ha – our blog URL!

I got the domain AlbumsOfUs.com and moved all the posts over. So far there are only a few glitches, like slideshows aren’t there anymore and some images are shown twice at different sizes…I have no idea why this is happening. I’m gonna just go with it and leave this one up in case I don’t get around to fixing everything.

There is a *Follow* button at the bottom right side of the page, which is a little different from this one, but same idea. You will get my lovely posts delivered right to your inbox when I post them. Yay! (I know you all want to sign up – right now!)

We have a new design and everything! It has taken me a really long time to get all this done, so I hope everyone likes it.

See you at AlbumsOfUs.com.

The Magic of a Daddy

I’m getting better, only 5 days after the lovely holiday – Father’s Day! We had a great time with this one, too. Your first is always fun, tho, right?

First we got up and went on a surprise trip to a local nursery called City Farmers, it’s the coolest place to buy all things gardening and farm. Check it out by the link here, if you like. I highly recommend. My gift idea was to get supplies for the hubs to make a vertical planter. He had been talking about doing this for some time now and I knew if I didn’t just get him everything to make it, it would forever be an idea on a list.

When I first visited this place, the guy that owns it explained how he doesn’t carry the “pockets” you usually see in stores because they are crazy expensive and you can make a vertical garden for under $20 (he had just made one). In his words, he doesn’t like the people who want to make money on “people’s dreams”. He’s the cutest and most helpful person I have come across in a store recently. He explained how to do it and said if I brought back the hubs he would explain again and get us all set up. Which is just what we did!

The hubs loved it and he will soon be outside sweating it up making our side yard look pretty! Another little gift, a note card just for Daddy, from L.L.

L.L.’s got some pretty rad taste, wouldn’t ya say?

Next, we went to lunch at a place nearby called The Blind Lady Ale House, it’s got great pizza and even better beers! What better place for a new dad to celebrate? We had a great time and even L.L. woke up for some fun times of being intrigued by the reclaimed wood on the walls. Does it get better for a 10 week old?

Then, we went home to get the pup. It’s only fair for us to let him help us celebrate. So, we walked to Yog-art (they don’t have a website, so you’ll have to believe me about how good they are) and had ourselves some yummy dessert and a stroll around our neighborhood.

That was our Father’s Day, we celebrated the new amazing Dad and hope that he enjoyed it as much as we did. We love you, more than words can say…

SO cute in her bow headband!

I’m Two Months Old

Another month passed us by in a blur. We are having so much fun with L.L. it’s hard to imagine life without her. I keep wanting to sit down and write about how all this makes me feel, but I haven’t had the time to get it all out on “paper”. Hopefully you will see a blog post soon enough of all the mushy stuff I have to offer about being a new mother.

This past month we have struggled with L.L.’s weight. She literally “fell off the charts” because she was so small. The doctor didn’t tell me this until we were at her two month appointment and she was back on. Probably better because I would have stressed even more. For two weeks she was about the same weight, and it seems that isn’t normal. Especially when you consider most babies have a growth spurt in that duration.

Personally, I feel that she was fine, but it was good for us to know that there is a possibility for danger. She was still meeting all her milestones by smiling, cooing, looking at us with the ability to follow with her eyes. She was also producing enough diapers, so we knew she wasn’t dehydrated. What she wasn’t doing was gaining the weight they wanted her to. When you break it down I feel that doctors these days don’t leave room (or much room) for free thinking anymore. Yes, she wasn’t fitting into the checkbox of weight, but she was fitting into all the rest just fine, do we really have to term her as a baby that has “Failure to Thrive”? I would think not, but there isn’t any other way for them to categorize it, so there you have it. And that is a nightmare when you are a new parent, you really do feel like you must be doing something wrong.

Especially as a breastfeeding mother, I was sure it was something I wasn’t doing or was doing wrong. I kept going to the Breastfeeding Support Groups, started pumping more to get my supply up, remained taking Fenugreek (and smelling like maple syrup, in the process – at least it was something sweet!), tracked everything, and started getting us off the nipple shield! On top of all that, I signed up for a breastfeeding clinic headed by one of the lactation consultants who runs one of the groups I attend. It was absolutely everything I could think of other than supplementing with formula. Which isn’t a bad thing, I just didn’t see why I had to do that. I truly felt like I was doing all I could and it was supposed to work out. I really needed all my effort to work out, so that I kept up with all the work it was taking to breastfeed my sweet baby. So, we persevered.

Luckily it all worked out. I have to say I was ready to throw a party the first time I saw 8 lbs. on the scale. It was such a relief and I was hopeful that we were out of the woods and far away from “Failure to Thrive” land. When I went to the clinic both L.L. and I were congratulated by the lactation consultant (I really love her) and when we went to our pediatrician appointment, he congratulated me. We had made it! We were doing what we should (according to the charts and checkboxes) and didn’t get any more special directions. I wanted to high five the doctor.

So, to any of you new mothers out there that are struggling, fear not! Persevere and keep doing all you can. Contact lactation consultants in your area and go to those support groups, they are what really saved me. It feels so good to know you aren’t the only one that is going through such a hard time. To feel so happy yet so sad/defeated at the same time isn’t easy to manage. If you are like me and you don’t have family around or close friends to turn to in your area you feel a bit alone. I needed people to help me feel more like myself and feel better about how being me is a good thing. If you don’t have that, find it. I happened to find it in those groups and I’m grateful for them, the ladies that run them, and the wonderful mommas that attend.

Now, onto the fun stuff – pictures! Our angel is 2 months old and she is precious. Just take a look!

Memorial Day Weekend

Here I am, behind the curve, again! It’s okay tho, right? I have so much I want to post, it’s kind of frustrating that I don’t have the time anymore. The silver lining is all the good stuff that life brings to keep us happy with the things we do have time for.

So, here it is. We were incredibly busy this weekend –  Each day we had an outing, which was very good for Momma. She likes to get out and see friends, since she is a social butterfly and all…

Plus, L.L. did so well with all of it and I am getting the hang of feeding her while we are out. At least that is what I like to tell myself. I will consider myself 100% successful when I don’t have to go to another room and hide.

I have lots of pictures to share, so I will do that now and explain with captions. Keep this one short and maybe I can get a few written sooner! Enjoy.

My First Mother’s Day

Ok, ok, I’m a week late. What can I say? It’s hard to keep up these days. Really, I have no idea how people do it…exercise, work, take care of baby, clean house, shower, do anything personal…I’d love to know the secret!

I digress, onto Mother’s Day!

It was a pretty low key day, which was fine for a tired Momma. First, I received flowers from my delightful daughter (with a little help from Daddy with that one). Such beautiful flowers that came with the sweetest card I could have imagined. It stated, I was the best Mom and L.L. loved me with all her heart. Could you just die of the sweetness? Of course, Dad said he is going to have to have a talk with her about using his credit card. (I thought that one was pretty funny, and hope you do, too.)

Then, we went on a family outing to Heavenly Desserts, oh joy! You all know how I feel about desserts, so this was just what the doctor ordered (not really, but if I were a doctor it would be on the order list!). The hubs and I shared selections of a peanut butter square and a chocolate cake with Bailey’s Irish Cream filling. If that wasn’t enough, we washed it down with some outstanding tea. I just love a blood red tea, don’t you?

From the hubs – I love, love, love it!

Next on the list is a card from my loving husband. He has a knack for finding some amazing cards, that I always save, and love displaying in the house. Not only did I get one from him, but also some friends & cousins. Such wonderful surprises and I will be sad when the time comes to take them off the fridge. I must say though, not all of them in the picture are for Mother’s Day, some are congratulations on the baby, but who cares! A card deserves to be displayed (as long as my husband will stand for it). This is where a little smily face should go, but I am trying really hard to abstain from using them in this blog.

And that’s that! It was a nice day and an even better weekend. We all had a good time, I even like to think that Domingo enjoyed it, too!

I’m One Month Old!

Well, it’s officially been one month with our little bundle of joy. On May 5th, 2012 L.L. was one month old! We couldn’t be happier, or more tired, or more blessed.

It’s quite amazing how different she looks to us. Her head had definitely grown bigger and her body is longer, but her weight hasn’t quite caught up, yet — yep, she’s a string bean, like both her parents!

Weight: 7 lbs. and 1 oz.

Height: 20 inches

Head Circumference: 36 cm

We took some pictures of her with the blanket that Granny made for her. Since there is no way to really know how big the blanket is or her size, we included an apple. She really is teeny tiny, but it’s hard to convey that in pictures.

Family Pictures With Granny

While Granny was here we were put on a mission to take some family photos. We did our best. Some of them turned out pretty good, but it was tough because L.L. wasn’t helping us out, for the most part. Of course, she was only 15 days old, so what did we expect? When Granny comes back with Grandpops we will have to make another go of it!

The Paper Anniversary

On April 30th, 2012 we celebrated our one year wedding anniversary — YAY!

It’s been a magical year, to say the least. It’s amazing to me how right life can turn out. I’m one lucky lady and fall asleep each night so grateful for the blessings I have. We celebrated with the whole family: each other, L.L. and Domingo. Since it’s a bit like rolling the dice on going out to eat, we decided to stay in and order take out sushi. It was perfect — romantic, relaxing, delicious and special.

I got a lovely card, gorgeous flowers (with some of our wedding flowers!) and tickets to see Delta Spirit. This is exceptional because it’s the one band we both discovered together and love, together. My husband is the greatest and very creative, if you ask me. I’m not good with anniversaries, but he knew it was the one where it’s a paper gift. How remarkable is it that he printed out concert tickets on paper, as my gift!? (If you know me well, you know how “on the nose” that is for me.)

Pinch me! ‘Cause this magnificent life I lead, sure doesn’t feel real.
